COMPLEXITY
I think that my design will be under complexity and contradiction . I speak of a complex and contradictory architecture based on the richness and ambiguity of modern experience . architecture is necessarily complex and contradictory in its very inclusion of the traditional . The wants of program, structure, mechanical equipment and expression. Even in some simple building , the thinking behind the design is complex.
We are require to design a local museum , located at sungai chua ,kajang. The site is right beside a lake which is a mining pool last time. The village around mostly is hakka old folks who always gather around . The shape of the design is following the shape of the site, its offset of the site . The design of the facade is more complexity and contradiction . The facade are mostly glass with wooden shading device , because i do not want to block the lake side view and at the same time allowing the nature sunlight to come inside the building . Where there the complex come in. The front facade is design to have ventilation and also in different level , the trees planting inside the lobby as a shading devices and also a privacy devices for the lobby area for visitor . The entrance will be design big and welcoming and also drop off area will be added to avoid the visitor get wet while getting down from the vehicle.
' I like elements which are hybrid rather than 'pure' compromising rather than 'clean', distorted rather than 'straightforward'.
I separate the private and public space by different level. Connecting level with ramp and also stairs. The service room such as counter, office ,toilet and multi purpose hall will be located at ground floor . The first floor will be mostly serve as gallery for exhibition ,balcony, viewport and also storage . In here the building become a diagram of museum , and theory of abstract, where simplicity cant work .
So the visitor will be come in to lobby ,then to the multi purpose hall area for briefing or activities . Then to the viewport area and gallery at first floor. The stairs that came down will lead them to souvenir shop for purchasing . After all, they can go to the outdoor courtyard space and also the bird pavilion.
The courtyard will be located at the middle of the building to bring view also sometimes for programs and out door activities. To connect with the existing bird pavilion , creating a sitting place and also serve as staircase around the bird pavilion. Some planting program will be add into too. The bird pavilion will be remain and untouched so that the local life will not be effected. They still can do what they usually do but with some new activities around the village .
Nor does complexity deny the valid simplification which part of the process of analysis and even a method of achieving complex architecture itself. But i the they both are inseparable because simplification is a method in the analytical process of achieving a complex art.
